Our Spring Play Date Fundraiser: Support Charlie and Starlight
As the blooms of spring begin to unfold, Chestnut House Nursery is buzzing with excitement for our upcoming Spring Play Date. Scheduled for Saturday, 16th March, from 9am to 1pm, this special event is not just a day of fun and games; it's a beacon of hope and support for one of our own cherished little ones, Charlie, and the incredible work done by Starlight, the UK's leading charity in bringing joy to children in hospitals and hospices through play.
Charlie's Courageous Journey
Just after celebrating his fourth birthday, Charlie faced an unimaginable challenge. Diagnosed with leukaemia, his life and that of his family changed overnight. Rushed to Addenbrookes Hospital, Charlie embarked on a daunting two-and-a-half-year chemotherapy regimen, known for its effectiveness but also for its potentially severe side effects.
True to the fears, Charlie's journey has been marked by significant hurdles, including prolonged hospital stays, intensive care, seizures, and temporary loss of mobility, speech, and sight. Yet, through this storm, Charlie's resilience shines bright, making remarkable progress and inspiring us all.
Our Mission for the Day
In solidarity with Charlie and countless children facing similar battles, our Spring Play Date aims to be more than a gathering. It's a mission to uplift, to support, and to contribute to a future where childhood cancer can be met with even more effective and less invasive treatments. Partnering with the Children's Cancer and Leukaemia Group, we pledge to make every moment of our event count towards this noble cause.
